Ongeluksnek Nature Reserve

Description: 

Ongeluksnek forms part of the Maloti-Drakensberg Transfrontier Park (MDTP) and boasts a rich natural heritage and biodiversity.
The reserve, located on the mountain grassland just near the Lesotho border, has verdant, lush summers and snowy winters. The Maloti-Drakensberg Mountains have globally significant plant and animal biodiversity, with unique habitats and high levels of endemism. The Maloti-Drakensberg Mountains are also home to the greatest gallery of rock art in the world with hundreds of sites and many thousands of images, painted by the San people, still in beautiful condition.

Applicable April 2024 to March 2026:
Gateway Lodge (sold per room, 2x3 sleeper rooms, 1x4sleeper room): 1-4 pax R784/room/night (off peak), each additional R159
1-4 pax R846/room/night (peak), each additional R191
Rondavel: R224 /rondavel/night (peak and off peak)
Conservation Fees - Applicable to both day and over night visitors, payable in cash on arrival at the reserve:

Directions from Matatiele to Ongeluksnek Nature Reserve:
1. Head north towards Jagger St (1.7km)
2. Turn left onto Jagger St (550m)
3. Turn left onto Main St/R56 (8.6km)
4. Turn right (39.1km)
5. Continue Straight (12.5km)
6. Destination will be on the right
